A Birmingham man killed in Washwood Heath on Saturday night (10 September) has been officially named as 22-year-old Zakir Nawaz.
The results of a post mortem have revealed that he died from a single stab wound to the chest.
Just 10 days before his death, Zakir became a father for the second time to a daughter. He also leaves a two-year-old son and his wife, Georgia, who has spoken of her loss:
"Our family has been left heartbroken as a result of Zakir ’s murder. Zak was a loving husband, father, son and brother. I was his queen and Zak was my world.
“Zak was a fantastic father and although I will ensure that our two children know this, it breaks my heart to know that Zak will never get to see our beautiful children grow.
“Zak’s parents, sisters and all who knew and loved him have been left empty. Zak had the ability to make anyone smile even if they were feeling low. He loved his family and we loved him dearly."
Detectives continue to appeal for witnesses to come forward after the stabbing on Highfield Road just before 10pm.
A 25-year-old man arrested several hours later has now been released without charge.
Detective Inspector Shaun Egan, from Force CID, said: “We understand that Mr Nawaz was attacked by several men and a crowd soon gathered with a number of people capturing what happened on their mobile phones.
“A young man has lost his life and we owe it to his family to find out how and why he died. I would urge anyone who has any information, or possibly even footage on their phone which will help our investigation, to come forward.
“Our thoughts remain with Mr Nawaz’s family at this sad time."
Officers continue to speak to witnesses and trawl CCTV in the area.
