Motorcyclist dies in Birmingham collision  

A man has been arrested after a motorcyclist died in a collision in Selly Oak yesterday (Thursday 8 September).  The collision happened on Pershore Road between Oaklands Road and Pebble Mill Road at around 2.45pm involving a motorbike, a BMW X5 and a double decker bus.  The driver from the BMW, a 45-year-old man, was arrested at his home address a short time later and released on police bail pending further enquiries.  The 25-year-old motorcyclist was treated by paramedics but despite their best efforts died at the scene. Sergeant Alan Wood, from the Regional Collision Investigation Unit, said: "We have spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene, but we would still like to hear from anyone who saw what happened and has not yet spoken to an officer. "This is a devastating tragedy for the man’s family and his friends and our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time." The road remained closed while emergency services attended the scene and reopened several hours later. The Collision Investigation Unit can be contacted on 101 quoting reference number 1316 08/09.
