A man will appear before magistrates tomorrow (Mon 29 Aug) charged with stabbing another man to death outside a Birmingham off licence.
Alexander Habte, of Conybere Street in Highgate, was charged with murder last night by West Midlands Police detectives investigating the attack outside RK Wines in Summer Lane, Newtown, on Tuesday evening (23 Aug).
The 19-year-old has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Birmingham Magistrates Court in the morning.
Police have now named the victim as 26-year-old local man Samuel Simret; a post mortem examination confirmed he died from a single stab wound to the chest.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Joyce, from the West Midlands Police Force CID, said: “Clearly the decision to charge a man over the murder is a significant development − however we are still trying to piece together the circumstances that led up to the incident. I would urge anyone with information who has yet to contact police, or any witnesses, to call my team on the 101 number."
DCI Joyce and his team can be contacted on 101 or information can be passed to the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
